I can tell you the first experience I had with video on an attorney’s website.  I was at a national forum more than 15 years ago, and the speaker had an attorney’s video queued up and ready to go on the jumbotron in front of the audience. As I looked up I had an immediate internal, astonishing yet human reaction to the face of the divorce attorney frozen on the screen: “I don’t like this guy.”

However, as soon as the video started everything changed.  His face softened and the tone of his voice was calm, yet engaging.  Informative. 25 seconds later I had moved from “I don’t like this guy,” to “I wish I had hired THAT guy to manage my own divorce.” When the video ended I sat back and simply noted my own journey.  I went from what we call today “swipe left” to “hire him” in 25 seconds.

What is the process of shooting a successful video?

Video used to be a matter of expensive equipment, expert lighting and absolute silence in the surrounding environment.  Today, video is about capturing a moment as it really is, and most of our smart phones are able to capture the moment in an exceptional manner.  There are times we have build a setting, professionally record sound, deploy the green screen and manipulate the lighting or (rarely) hire an outside video partner.
